this apartment
poetryMy body,
it is littered with reminders of you.
My skin usually forgets quickly,
but it hasn’t forgotten you.
I press the marks you’ve left,
to keep you tethered here.
This apartment,
it won’t forget you either.
You linger in every room,
your scent still heavy,
your voice still echoing.
You are an apparition now.
In (redacted),
Part of you remains here, too.
I meander the streets alone,
Hoping that if I look behind me
I’ll find you were trailing all along,
smiling at me fondly.
The ocean,
It comes between us again.
I measure my heartbreak in the distance that separates us.
11,665 kilometres.
It brings me a strange comfort,
to know how far you’ve gone.
